About Liz & Pilates

Joseph Pilates

The founder of pilates

Pilates helps to change the way you and your body looks and feels.  This is achieved by building strength, creating a well toned body with slender thighs and a flat stomach.

Pilates teaches you how to become more body aware and develop a good posture as well as improving flexibility and agility.  It can even help ease back pain.

Many professional dancers (Darcy Bussell), former top tennis players (Pat Cash and Tim Henman), New Zealand All Blacks and the Professional Footballers Association to name a few, have used it for strength, flexibility and injury prevention.

Pilates was developed from the techniques of Joseph Pilates helping to:

  • develop a strong core using the deep abdominal muscles
  • build long and learn muscles
  • increase flexibility in the joints – a body with balanced strength and flexibility is less likely to be injured
  • condition the whole body so no muscle group is overtrained or undertrained
  • relieve stress through proper breathing
  • maintain and improve posture
  • improve mind-body connection by proper breathing, correct spine and pelvic alignment concentrating on smooth, flowing movement
